Mama Love Foundation, a non-governmental organisation based in Obuasi, has teamed up with Captain One Golf Society and the Obuasi Golf Club to offer golf training to underprivileged children in the region. The initiative, called the “Deprived Kids Project,” aims to encourage young girls to take up the sport and develop their talent.

The programme will initially benefit children from the Mama Love Foundation, who are already undergoing training in other areas such as dressmaking, hairdressing, and baking. The children will receive basic golf training for several weeks, with the hope of discovering talented golfers who can be nurtured to achieve their full potential.

The Obuasi Golf Club has established a Golf Academy to train children and help them become good golfers in the future. The club is committed to demystifying the notion that golf is a sport only for the wealthy and to developing the talent of juvenile golfers in Obuasi.

Golf has numerous social, health, and financial benefits as a sport, and the Obuasi Golf Club is determined to help young players reap these rewards. The programme will eventually be extended to other children’s homes in Obuasi.

The President of Mama Love Foundation, Reverend Love Konadu, praised the Captain One Golf Society and the Obuasi Golf Club for their commitment to training young players and encouraging them to develop an interest in golf. She believes that the programme will help to ensure the holistic development of the children.

Pius Ayeh Appiah, the Founder and President of Captain One Golf Society, emphasised the importance of developing young golfing talent in Ghana. Golf is now an Olympic sport, and Ghana needs to cultivate more players in order to compete at the highest level. Unfortunately, golf is still viewed as a sport only for the wealthy, and the majority of players in Ghana come from this class. This is a situation that needs to change if Ghana is to compete on the world stage.

In a nutshell, the partnership between Mama Love Foundation, Captain One Golf Society, and the Obuasi Golf Club is a positive step towards developing young golfing talent in Ghana. The programme will help to demystify the sport and make it more accessible to underprivileged children. For the most part, the focus will be on nurturing talent and ensuring that young players can reap the social, health, and financial benefits that come with playing golf.
